The Opéra de Montreal presents… Falstaff

To mark the 200th anniversary of Verdi’s birth, we are presenting his final opera, for which he chose a work by Shakespeare. Old, pot-bellied Sir John Falstaff still thinks of himself as a great ladies’ man, sending out identical love letters to married women. But the merry wives decide to take revenge on the old man. A madcap comic masterpiece, a whirling musical farce in which every note is like a burst of laughter.
Sung in Italian with English-French surtitles.

PreOpera

A 30-minute dynamic and “user-friendly” introduction to the performance. Hosted by musicologist Pierre Vachon, this get-together is like a journey into the heart of the work’s music and history, its libretto and its symbols, the production’s artists, etc. The PreOpera talks are held in French, with a brief summary in English.
