Les Violons du Roy’s 2014–2015 Montreal Season opens Friday, September 19, at 7:30 pm. at Maison symphonique with a long-time musical partner, pianist Alexandre Tharaud. For the occasion, he will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto no. 2 and Mozart’s Rondo in A Major, K. 386.

Alexandre Tharaud continues to distinguish himself on the international scene with his unique vision and original musical personality. Together, the pianist and Les Violons du Roy make for a unique and inspiring artistic match as evidenced by the success of their 2011 European tour and recording of the Bach keyboard concertos. For his reunion with the orchestra, he will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto no. 2, written when the composer was young, as well as Mozart’s seductive Rondo for Piano and Orchestra, an all too rare concert treat. Mr. Tharaud will be the featured soloist for the European Tour of Les Violons du Roy next October.

This concert will mark Austrian conductor Thomas Rösner’s first appearance and performance with Les Violons du Roy. He enjoys continuous success in the opera house as well as a distinguished symphonic career. From 2000 to 2004 he was Associate Conductor of Orchestre National de Bordeaux and from 2005 to 2011 was chief conductor of Orchestre Symphonique Bienne, Switzerland.  More information is found on www.thomasroesner.com

The concert will open with Mozart’s Symphony in D Major, K. 196/121, whose first two movements are taken from the overture of the composer’s opera La finta giardiniera and conclude with Schubert’s Symphony no. 5, a masterpiece that reveals the influence of Mozart, who unfailingly won over audiences with his melodic depth and great refinement.

The Montreal season is presented by La Capitale Financial Group.
