The Segal Centre and the OFF Jazz Festival present

JOE SULLIVAN BIG BAND

with Lorne Lofsky & Kirk MacDonald

The Segal Centre for Performing Arts is proud to collaborate with the OFF JAZZ Festival for the first time to present the Joe Sullivan Big Band.

Prolific trumpet player Joe Sullivan and his celebrated Big Band have been a major presence on the Canadian jazz scene since 1998. He returns to the Segal Centre for a concert featuring guitarist Lorne Lofsky, formerly of the Oscar Peterson trio, and Kirk MacDonald, one of Canada’s premiere jazz saxophonists. The two visitors from Toronto are now long-time collaborators with both the ensemble and Joe Sullivan himself. This concert will feature several new pieces featuring the two guests as well as music from the band’s extensive repertoire.

The great Canadian guitarist Lorne Lofsky has now performed extensively with Sullivan’s quintet and sextet and has recorded with both the Big Band and the quintet. Kirk MacDonald, one of Canada’s premiere jazz artists, is back with the ensemble for the first time since 2008. Let’s not forget the stellar regulars that make up this world-class ensemble: from the venerable André White, whose piano anchors one of Canada’s finest rhythm sections, through the inexorable logic of Al Mclean’s tenor saxophone, to the stratospheric exclamations of lead trumpeter Jocelyn Couture, no band is tighter.
