Aleksey Bodganov, baritone

Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal

  • Ludwig van Beethoven : Elegischer gesang
  • Ludwig van Beethoven : string Quartet no. 11 in F minor, opus 95 (orch. Gustav Mahler)
  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : requiem in d minor, K.626 (orch. Robert Levin)

Jean-Marie Zeitouni will direct the new version of the Requiem by Mozart, as completed by Robert Levin, in conjunction with the commemorations marking Remembrance Day on November 14, 2014. This event will see two iconic cultural institutions share the stage at the Maison symphonique: the Orchestre de chambre I Musici de Montréal and the Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal, which will mark 30 and 40 years of existence (respectively) this year.

Latter-day musicologists have succeeded in lifting the veil on several aspects of the mystery surrounding the Mozart Requiem. More recently, a handful of musicians not satisfied with the work of Süssmayer – the Mozart pupil who completed the score after his teacher’s death – have proposed alternate versions. Among them is the version by Robert Levin, which has continued to find favour among conductors partial to this universally loved masterpiece. And why favour Levin’s version? That’s what I Musici invites you to discover.

Pre-concert talks
I Musici invites the public to set the stage for their concert experience by attending a 30-minute talk prior to each concert in the Downtown Series. On November 14 at 7 p.m., cultural journalist and host Marie-Christine Trottier will lead the discussion in the Maison symphonique lobby alongside Jean-Marie Zeitouni and a few guest artists. This activity is open to the public.
