Maeterlinck’s timeless drama Pelléas et Mélisande inspired many artists of the twentieth century. Julian Kuerti’s second concert of the season brings together three musical versions of this important work exploring forbidden love, jealousy and secrecy. Whether composed for the theatre or in the form of a symphonic poem, the music inspired by this beautiful story hauntingly explores the contrast between dark and light. The resulting musical shadows will be interspersed with key scenes from the drama brought to life by two talented actors—Sophie Desmarais and Benoît McGinnis—who share the stage with Fauré, Sibelius and Schoenberg.
