Kid Koala’s

Nufonia Must Fall in Concert

directed by K.K. Barrett
featuring Afiara Quartet

She’s a lonely office girl. He’s an out-of-work robot struggling to find his voice amidst the noise of the city. Little do they know that destiny has programmed them for the greatest love story of our time.

Nufonia Must Fall Live: Equal parts cinema, theatre, and musical concert. Watch an amazing team of puppeteers bring the characters of Kid Koala’s graphic novel Nufonia Must Fall to life in miniature sets built to recreate each scene from the book. Under the direction of renowned production designer KK Barrett (Her, Where the Wild Things Are, Adaptation, Being John Malkovich), the performance is cinematically lit, filmed and edited live, and projected on a large screen. Kid Koala, accompanied by the Afiara String Quartet, performs an original score on piano and turntable. All of these components come together in real time thanks to a team of talented performers and technicians.

“Part of the enjoyment is glancing from the screen to the dimly lighted stage, seeing the puppeteers move from backdrop to backdrop and watching the ingenuity of the perspective and the minuscule gestures
that translate into bigscreen drama.”

– The New York Times

“Music, cinematography, and puppetry come together in this magic trick of the heart.”
– Jason Reitman, director, Juno, Up in the Air

”The groundbreaking Nufonia Must Fall is one of those special live events that must be seen to be believed. On top of the sheer miracle of the live orchestration of it all, it was beautiful, laugh-out-loud funny and stunning!
Those tiny little puppets actually made me cry.”

“Postmodern Chaplin.”
– Chris Strouth for the Walker Art Center

“The film, small and tender, could stand strong on its own, but the heart of the production
lies in watching it being created.”
