Isabelle Faust and Alexander Melnikov

Isabelle Faust is a German-born violinist whose sound is described by The New York Times as having “passion, grit and electricity but also a disarming warmth and sweetness.” Russian pianist Alexander Melnikov, has been praised for his “wonderful color and imagination” (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung). Together their recording of the Beethoven sonatas received a Grammy nomination and won both a Gramophone Award and Germany’s ECHO Klassik Prize.

The recording of Beethoven’s ten violin sonatas by Isabelle Faust and Alexander Melnikov for Harmonia Mundi was a critical triumph. For this concert, Faust and Melnikov perform the first three of this cycle of sonatas by the youthful Beethoven in quest of a musical language of his own, in addition to the most famous of them all, the “Kreutzer.”
